PAGCOR’s Casino Filipino in Tagaytay remains closed almost five weeks after the Taal Volcano eruption, the Philippines gaming regulator has revealed.
PAGCOR announced in early January that the property would be temporarily closed due to the threat of further eruptions, with around 8,000 people having been evacuated at the time from the area surrounding the volcano – located around 70km south of Manila.
Providing an update this week, PAGCOR said Casino Filipino – Tagaytay remains closed with the building “currently undergoing structural and electrical checks to guarantee safety of the entire premises.” No date for the resumption of operations has been set.
The Taal Volcano is one of the world’s smallest volcanoes but is the second most active in the Philippines, having registered 34 eruptions over the past 450 years.
